DanceAfrica Begins "Rhythmic Reflection" at BAM

DanceAfrica, the celebration of African movement and music has kicked off its 32 year with a new run of performances at the Brooklyn Academy of Music entitled “Rhythmic Reflection: African Legacies Revealed.”
DanceAfrica takes audience members on a journey through the vast African continent using traditional dance from various tribal origins for performances that educate as well as entertain.
Heck, look close enough and you can even see how traditonal African movement continues to influence modern expressions from interpretive dance to the Stanky Leg! Like Prego, "it's in there!"

L.A.'s Pan African Film & Arts Festival Has Expanded

 The Pan African Film Festival has evolved and expanded to become The Pan African Film & Arts Festival. PAFF, now in its 17th year, will run from February 5 - 16 with events taking place primarily between Culver City and Baldwin Hills. PAFF is the largest Black film festival in the U.S. and features the work of filmmakers from across the African Diaspora. Highlights of this year’s fest includes “Skin” starring South African actress Sophie Okonedo. Closing out PAFF is a screening of director Charles Burnett’s “Relative Strangers”. This family drama has a cast that read like a Black cast member reunion from the TV series “E.R.” including Eric LaSalle, Michael Michelle and Michael Beach. The film also stars Cicely Tyson. )Did she ever guest on E.R.?).
Blair Underwood serves as this year’s celebrity host.

Obama: An Artistic Movement

The Obama campaign not only killed the game on fundraising and the use of the Internet, but it also brought the visual aesthetic of politics to a whole 'nother level! The official Obama website and campaign literature was sleek and professional, but the cottage industry it created in unofficial apparel and items had some real artistic standouts like the Obey Giant posters.
